History in the Hills
Named after original Lafayette settler, Elam Brown, The Mill’s story is one of ingenuity and inspiration. When Elam grew tired of the week-long travel to the nearest Mill in San Jose, he decided to build his own on the banks of Lafayette Creek, near what is now First Street. Local businesses soon sprung up around it, and alas, the town of Lafayette was born!
